Meet Your Chief Executive Officer

Steve Benjamin

How did you get into senior living?

Truth be told, I stumbled into it not realizing that Senior Living was a stand-alone industry. I was working for a traumatic brain injury community in Escondido, California when I was approached about an opportunity to work in a sales-related position for the Hillhaven Corporation who, at the time, was operating over 300 nursing centers in 33 states. I was excited about finding an industry that had both great service-related products and endless potential for professional growth.

Who truly inspires you?

Single moms are first on the list. I watched my mom struggle for years raising my 3 siblings all while working in a glass factory to pay the bills. You are truly living paycheck to paycheck and the stress for her I’m sure was at times overwhelming! But she, like millions of single moms today, somehow find a way to get up every morning to take care of their families with very little recognition or fanfare. Heroes, every one of them!

A thing people would be surprised to know about you?

That I am a Christian – which only means I am as imperfect as everyone else. I get up every morning, thank God for another day, and try to make the best decisions possible.

Beatles or Elvis?

Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll, period!

How did you wind up at Inspired Living?

With 25 years in and the opportunity to work for both very good and not so good organizations, I was blessed to see the best and the worst of senior living. When I was given the incredible opportunity to create Inspired Living I knew through years of trial and error what characteristics were going to be critical in developing a senior living organization that would consistently deliver the care and services that our Moms and Dads deserved. From the start, Inspired Living was a big whiteboard with no limitations or barriers in creating an environment that our Moms and Dads would thrive in and that our staff would enjoy working in. That’s what drove me to Inspired Living and keeps me excited every day.

What do you want your legacy to be?

I have had some great mentors in the past and I hope, with the growth of Inspired Living, that I can make an impact much in the same way. First, by influencing young professionals about the incredible opportunities that a career in this industry presents. And secondly, I want to throw open the doors of opportunity for our current employees (especially the single moms) who are doing a great job already and want additional growth and responsibility.
