Validus Senior Living’s Inspired Living communities were prepared for Hurricane Dorian in more ways than one.

All of Validus’ Inspired Living communities have been built in the last 6 years which afford significant advantages in a storm, including hurricane-proof windows and generators in every community. In preparation for the storm, emergency teams were called into action, and food and water were delivered to prepare for not only sheltering residents but also their families, the staff and family members of the staff.

“It is an honor to be offering our best-in-class assisted living services to our moms, dads and their families in Florida,” said Steve Benjamin, CEO of Validus Senior Living.  “However, we realized in preparing for the storm, in order for our associates to avoid being separated from their loved ones in this time of need, they would need support for their families as well.”

School closures on September 3rd were going to cause a significant strain on the employees of Inspired Living communities. The company determined the assisted living communities and the central office in Tampa, known as the Community Support Center, should offer complementary childcare to reduce the stress of their workforce.

“The children and the residents had a great time. These interactions are so valuable for everyone involved,” said Dr. Zach Zerbonia, Chief Operations Officer of Validus Senior Living.

A series of surveys conducted by Generations United and the Eisner Foundation, where over 2,000 adults participated, found Americans favored the idea of intergenerational living and interactions, but weren’t aware of communities that offered such services.  Less than 27 percent of Americans are aware of community options that care for children/youth and older adults together. The results suggest more than four in five Americans would prefer sending a senior loved one to a care setting with intergenerational interaction according to this survey.
