Regional Vice President Sales and Operations
Why did you get into senior living?
I had a very close relationship with both of my grandmothers growing up-spent summers alternating between each of them who both lived very close by-one right next door and the other a few miles away. They were my best friends and new lots of my secrets as a teenager. Those close relationships drew me to want to pursue a career in the senior living/health care field. I majored in Health Care Administration at Penn State and was thinking of pursuing physical therapy a hot field to get into at that time. I was introduced to Manor Care, A skilled nursing company while serving as the President of our Student Health Care Administration club. The executives who visited with my fellow classmates convinced me to consider an Administrator in Training Program with them. Fast forward 25+ years and I have had the pleasure of working in skilled nursing/rehab facilities, assisted living and Independent living and could never see myself doing anything else.
Who truly inspires you?
My parents are who truly inspire me. They both worked hard to give my brother and I things and experiences they didn’t have the ability to afford when they were growing up. Family always has come first for them-dinner every night together at the dining room table a tradition my husband and I carried forward with our family, summer vacations as a family -trips to Disney and vacations at the Jersey shore that they saved for all year! Holiday traditions that will always be fond memories for me. Serving as band parents and going on multiple band trips with a bunch of nerdy yet rambunctious band kids. Driving to the parking lot of school buses after school because I left my clarinet on the bus or driving several hours back to the band camp location where I left my favorite robe and the list goes on and on. My mom and dad have always been there to support me and I fell truly blessed to have had an amazing upbringing. They have been married for almost 55 years and served as my role model for what I looked for in a relationship- it might not always be easy and it takes work to make it work. To this day when something good happens they are first people I call to share the news with-they are truly my inspiration!
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I am a huge animal lover-mostly dogs or cats but have also had rabbits and currently have a hamster named Cheddar that our daughter thought would be great to have in her college dorm her first summer session that now resides with us and gets to roll in her ball every night while the cats look at her in a weird way. Stray cats seem to somehow know that we are the neighborhood sanctuary for them to turn up on our porch for a wonderful meal and possibly get on the wait list to move in to the house. Not sure I should share how many we have or have had as I do not wish for my neighborhood association to get wind or for people to think we are crazy cat people. We do also currently have a chihuahua named Gizmo who we walk around the neighborhood in a doggie stroller-he loves it!
Beatles or Elvis?
Really neither-I loved Madonna and REO Speedwagon growing up in the 80’s, loved One Direction-particularly Harry and am still depressed that they broke up and I love Pink and am somewhat obsessed Taylor Swift and have recently attended several of her concerts.
How did you wind up at Inspired Living?
After spending several years with a company I loved working for that unfortunately changed ownership and I was forced to search for another job I was struggling to find a company that was the right culture fit for me. I am sad to say I had several misfires and during one of those times I happened to see Steve Benjamin and his family having dinner at Carraba’s while my husband and I were dining there as well. I decided not to disrupt his family dinner but sent him an email the next day asking if Validus/Inspired Living might have an opportunity that would fit with my background. And here I am two and half years later!
What do you want your legacy to be?
I want to be remembered as being a fun and loving mother, pet mom, daughter and wife. I want to be a role model to my daughter so she believes there are no limits or boundaries as to what she can do or be in this world. It would be my hope to be perceived as a mentor and professional friend to young women and men that I work with in the senior living industry. I want to leave this earth feeling as though I made a difference in the lives of humans and furry four legged friends as well.
